Urad Gosht – Indian Style Mutton and Urad Dal

Urad Gosht is a non-veg dish in which meat and whole urad are cooked in different spices, the meat is roasted and mixed with lentils, and a tadka of desi ghee is applied on top. It tastes delicious when eaten with rice, roti, parathas and rumali roti.

Let’s see the Urad Gosht recipe –

 

 

 

Clean and wash the meat, put meat, oil, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, salt, red chilli powder, ginger garlic paste, salt, turmeric, cumin seeds, oil and one cup water in the cooker and let it whistle till the meat melts, open the cooker after the gas comes out and fry the masala.

 

 

 

Put whole urad , salt, turmeric, red chilli powder and water in the cooker and close the cooker. After one whistle, reduce the flame and let it whistle for 4 to 5 times. Keep water 3 to 4 inches above the urad in the cooker. After the gas comes out, check the urad; if it is not melted, let it whistle for 1 to 2 more times.

 

 

 

Mix urad and roasted meat, add chopped green chillies and finely chopped ginger and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. If it seems too thick, add water and cook for some time.

 

 

 

For tempering, when onion turns brown in oil or ghee, add cumin seeds.

 

 

 

Now mix the tadka and add it to the lentils and meat, add green coriander on top and serve.

Urad Gosht Ingredients –

For the meat-

  • 500 gms meat
  • Onion 2 
  • Tomatoes 2 
  • Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp 
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp 
  • Salt to taste 
  • Turmeric 1/4 tsp 
  • Coriander powder 2 tsp 
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp 

For the lentils-

  • Whole Urad 200 gms 
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp 
  • Turmeric 1/4 tsp 
  • Salt to taste 
  • 4 to 5 green chillies 
  • 1 inch ginger (finely chopped)
  • Green Coriander 

For the tempering-

  • Desi Ghee or Oil 
  • half onion 
  • Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
