Patta Gobhi ki Sabji is a delicious dish that is prepared with minimal spices. This recipe includes cabbage, potatoes, bell peppers, and a few pickling spices, resulting in a tasty dish. The best part is that it is very easy to make.
Let’s take a look at how to prepare Patta Gobhi ki Sabji:
Cut the cabbage into small pieces. Also, chop the bell peppers and potatoes.
For the pickling spices, take whole coriander seeds, fennel seeds, whole red chilies, cumin seeds, nigella seeds, and fenugreek seeds. In a separate bowl, mix salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and cumin powder to make a paste with these spices.
Heat mustard oil in an iron kadhai (wok) and turn off the heat after a while, allowing the oil to cool slightly (this helps in reducing the pungency of mustard oil). After a few minutes, heat the oil again and add whole red chilies. Keep the heat low and cook until the color of the chilies changes. Then add the paste of the remaining dry spices and cook on low heat for 1-2 minutes.
Now, add the potatoes and cook for 2 minutes. Then add the bell peppers and mix well.
Add the cabbage to the kadhai. If all the cabbage does not fit at once, add it in batches. The cabbage will shrink as it cooks. Add chopped green chilies. Add a little water, cover the kadhai with a lid, and cook on low heat. Stir occasionally to prevent the vegetables from sticking to the bottom. Cook until the vegetables are tender and well-cooked.
Once the cabbage is cooked and the flavors are well-incorporated, turn off the heat.

- 500 grams cabbage
- 2 bell peppers
- 2 small potatoes
- 4-5 green chilies
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
- 1/2 teaspoon whole coriander seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 5-6 whole red chilies
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon nigella seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
